Patrick J. Mergen, 80, of Sedalia, formerly of Sunrise Beach, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020 at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born March 17, 1940, in Whittemore, IA, a son of the late Michael and Esther (Higley) Mergen. On September 2, 1961, in Whittemore, he was married to Carol Kollasch, who survives of the home.
Pat was a 1958 graduate of St. Michael Presentation Academy. He served his country honorably in the US Marine Corps from 1961-1965 as an air traffic controller. He continued this career path which took him and his family to live in various places until his retirement in 1991. At this time, he and his wife, Carol, moved to Sunrise Beach, and then to Sedalia in 2020.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and attended Sacred Heart and St. Patrick Chapels. He was a member of the Sedalia Moose Lodge. He and his wife enjoyed country dancing.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by two sons: Michael Mergen (Debra), of Springfield, MO, and David Mergen (Kelli), of Kansas City, MO; a brother: Kenny Mergen, of Iowa; four grandchildren: Kiefer Mergen, Cindy Beecher, Julia Mergen and Madison Mergen; and three great-grandchildren: Norah Mergen, Gabe Mergen and Blakelee Mergen.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Clem Mergen and Don Mergen.
No services are planned at this time. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
