Pauline M. Turner

Pauline Marie Turner, 96, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully Monday, January 15, 2018, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City with family by her side. Her “bed” was finally ready “up there.”

She was born March 15, 1921, in Centralia, IL, the daughter of Chalmer Holcomb and Thyra Heed Holcomb.

Pauline and Charles met on a blind date on New Year’s Eve on December 31, 1940. Her charm and smile won him quickly.

On May 2, 1941, in St. Charles, she was united in marriage to Charles Leslie Turner, who preceded her in death on November 22, 1994.

Pauline was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and was involved in the women’s circle. She worked for many years as a waitress at the Old Missouri Homestead and McGrath’s, where she finally retired at the young age of 85. She made birthday cakes for everyone she could, and people anxiously awaited their turn. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, helping others, keeping in touch with her extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles– and some friends she basically adopted as family- year round.  She had a smile that would light up a room and never met a stranger.  If you were visiting her she always had some sort of dessert for you– there always had to be room for that. If you knew her, you were a lucky person.

Surviving are three daughters, Carol Turner, of Gainesville, FL, Susan Knapp, of Grand Forks, ND, and Leslie Pfetcher, of Kansas City; son-in-law, Bill Pfetcher, of Kansas City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her beloved friend, Kenneth Dick.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Wendling and Margaret Heyduck; and a brother, Bill Holcomb.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 18, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Matthew Herren officiating.

Pauline’s final resting spot will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Broadway Presbyterian Church.
