Peter F. Daniels, 79, passed away Wednesday, October 2

, 2019 at his home.
He was born April 22, 1940, in Aachen, Germany to Teresia “Thea” and Matthias Daniels who both preceded him in death.
Pete emigrated to the United States with his mother in June of 1951 and became a citizen two years later. He came to this country knowing no English and started school at Sacred Heart in September of 1951. He was promptly set back three grades as he did not speak or understand English. Pete mastered English on his own and upon graduating got a job proofreading for the Sedalia Democrat. He was promoted to a reporter starting his career in Journalism at the Democrat for 30 years and then later at the Central Missouri News for 10 years. Pete described himself as a “Retired Newspaper Editor and a lifelong journalist”. In addition to journalist, Pete loved painting, carving, intricate counted cross stitch and was an avid reader with a huge collection of books.
Pete is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan (McCarty) Daniels of Sedalia; a daughter Margo Mathewson (Chris) of Lee’s Summit; three grandchildren, Hannah, Ian and Abby; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, TJ and Kensington; two nieces, Cara and Molly; one nephew, Christopher; two great-nephews, Tim and PJ; one great-niece, Hattie, along with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gayle and John Gerber and Mike & Nancy McCarty.
A memorial gathering will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Fitter’s 5
th
Street Pub in Sedalia, MO.
