Phillip E. Meagher

Phillip E. Meagher, 87, of Sedalia, formerly of Cole Camp, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Loving Arms Memory Care in Sedalia.

He was born September 28, 1934, a son of the late Clarence Patrick and Mary Ruth (Sellers) Meagher. In January 1960, he married Wanda Winfrey and to this union were born four children, Matthew, Mark, Jodi and Heather.

Phillip was a 1952 graduate of Carrollton High School and was a stand-out athlete. He attended William Jewell College where he played football.

He enlisted in the US Army and served 1955-1957 as a medic during the Korean War.

Phillip was a pipeliner and a member of Pipefitters Union Local 798. He was proud of his lifelong career that took him to six continents and every ocean.

Phillip was proud of his Irish heritage as his grandfather immigrated to the United States as a young adult. Phillip loved to cook from scratch and was known for his homemade bread. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader, with Louis L’Amour being his favorite author. Education was very important to Phillip. He was very proud of supporting the educational pursuits of his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include four children: Jodi Karr (Heath), of Warsaw, Heather Lynn (Darin), of Pilot Grove, Mark Meagher, of Blue Springs, and Matthew Meagher (Holly), of Utah; a brother, David Meagher, of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren, Sterling Karr (Sydney), Hudson Karr, Riley Jo Karr, Garret Lynn, Kelsey Lynn, Ellery Meagher and Rowan Meagher; and a great-granddaughter, Scarlett Karr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Buddy, Francis, Lee and Mickey; and two sisters, Martha and Margaret.

Graveside service will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton at a later date.
