Phyllis Newton

October 12, 1942 — February 7, 2025

Phyllis Jean Newton, 82, of Hughesville, passed away Friday, February 7, 2025, at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO.

She was born on October 12, 1942, in Sweet Springs, MO, the only child of Raymond E. and Edna M. (Dittmer) Hartman. On December 8, 1962, in Sweet Springs, she married Thomas H.C. "Peachie" Newton, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 2004.

Phyllis worked as a medical coder at Bothwell Regional Health Center. In addition to her career, she dedicated much of her time to helping on the family farm, embodying a strong work ethic and love for the land.

A faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church, Phyllis found strength and joy in her faith and church community. She had a zest for life, enjoying dancing, playing cards, and traveling to shows and dinner theater. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren's ball games.

Phyllis was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband.
