Ralph E. (Bunny) Houchen, age 96, of Houstonia, died on Sunday, May 9, 2021 in Belton, Missouri. He was born on December 19, 1924 in Houstonia, son of Clay B. Houchen and Florence B. (Wicker) Houchen. On July 22, 1962, he married Ruby (Higgins) Houchen, who preceded him in death earlier this year.
Survivors include one son, David Houchen and wife Janet, of Bucyrus, KS and five grandchildren: Clayton, Carlie, Claire and Carson Houchen and Crista Houchen Bosley (Brent).
Bunny farmed in the Houstonia, Missouri area for his entire working life. He loved the joys and challenges that are part of production agriculture. Even when he could no longer visit the farm each day, he wanted to know how the crops were doing.
The family thanks everyone for their kindness and prayers. We send a special thank you to Roy and Mary Arnett for their love, assistance and friendship. With their support, Bunny and Ruby lived independently in their farmhouse as long as possible.
There will be an informal graveside service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the Houstonia Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Clayton Houchen, Carson Houchen, Carlie Houchen, Claire Houchen, Brent Bosley and Ramie Wicker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Show-Me Christian Youth Home of LaMonte or First United Methodist Church of Sedalia.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heckart Funeral Home.
