Ray Ellsworth Shrock, 86, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 10, 1930, in Newark, OH, son of Ray Shrock Sr. and Effie Elizabeth Caruthers Shrock.
On December 26, 1952, in Kansas City, KS, he was married to Wilma Jean Busick, who preceded him in death on May 13, 2009.
Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served as a Seaman on the USS Roosevelt. He was a member of VFW Post 2591.
He enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, and the many late night card games playing poker with family. He was a loveable guy who will be remembered for being ornery and fun.
He worked as an over-the-road truck driver.
Surviving are five children: Doris Myers (Sonny), of Kansas City, MO, Suzie Q May (Garry), of Benton, IL, Donald Shrock (Polly), of Sedalia, Glenn Shrock (Patricia), of Cole Camp, and Lorrie Demand (Mitchell), of Sedalia; eleven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Chuck Shrock; three grandchildren: Stephanie Jennings, Melanie May and Aaron May; and six siblings.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 27, at Heckart Funeral Home.
Casket bearers will be Don Shrock, Glenn Shrock, Garry May, Mitchell Demand, Sonny Myers, Quentin Barnes, Tyler Shrock, Garry May Jr. and James Burnworth.
Burial with full military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Heckart Funeral Home.
