Ray Mathews, 52, of Warrensburg, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023.
He was born March 2, 1970, in Richmond, son of Dale and Marge (Robertson) Mathews.
All who knew Ray experienced his infectious laugh, strong hugs, goofy sense of humor, beaming smile, and his love for God. Ray Mathews never met a stranger.
In 1988, Ray graduated from Orrick High School in Orrick, Missouri. He spent his career serving his community as a general contractor. He was most recently a member of New Life Church Ministries, in Sedalia, Missouri. He’s also been a very active member of several ministries around the Warrensburg, Missouri area for the last 10 years.
Ray loved everything about God’s beautiful creation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and ATVs. He also enjoyed archery, bowling, and loved his time riding motorcycles. As a founding member of Soldiers of the Cross, he combined his passion for riding with his love of the Lord.
After a lifetime of rejecting the gospel, Ray came to know the Lord in 2005 when he watched his oldest daughter, Autumne, get baptized. If you know anything about Ray Mathews, you know that whatever he does, he does 100%. And his commitment to the Lord was no different. Ray had a hunger for preaching and teaching, and became a sought after minister in the surrounding communities. The apostle Paul, told Timothy to be diligent to study the word, and to “fulfill his ministry.” Ray Mathews did that with distinction.
On September 18, 2012 in Orrick, Missouri, Ray and Ami Sanders (Goodwin) married and joined two families together as one. Ray and Ami discovered their love and passion for the ocean and were planning to retire close to the beach. Ray loved his children deeply.
Survivors include his wife, Ami, of the home; his parents, Dale and Marge Mathews, of Orrick, Missouri; his sister Dalla McMullen and her husband Mark, of Orrick, Missouri; his daughter Autumne Heffernen and her husband Jim, of Arkansas; his son Riley Mathews of Liberty, Missouri; his daughter Payton Mathews of Liberty, Missouri; his stepsons Jacob Goodwin and Johnny Goodwin, of Warrensburg, Missouri; his son Joshua Mathews of the home; his God-daughter Emma Cobb of the home; his grandmother Faye Willard, of Orrick, Missouri; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and chosen brothers.
Ray’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, of Warrensburg, Missouri.
