Rex L. Cox

Rex L Cox, 78, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 5th, 2016, at a trap shoot in Sedalia, MO, doing what he loved.

After High School Rex served in the US Air Force as a crew chief in Labrador. Returning home he began drag racing as a part of Cox & Daniel Racing. In 1969 he won 7 out of 9 national events and was runner up in 2 others, earning the AHRA A/F Junior Fuel Dragster National Championship. He was sponsored by, worked at, and later purchased Arrow Speed Shop in 1979, one of the first speed shops in the nation.

Rex enjoyed game hunting, fishing, water skiing, was an award winning trap shooter, and managed the Lake Lotawana Sportsmen’s Club for 20 years before retiring at age 70. He loved shooting and coaching young people in the sport. Rex also loved vacationing in Hawaii on the Big Island and Maui.

Rex was the son of Frank and Zelma Cox and is survived by his wife Diana J Cox, his sister Dottie Wildschuetz, his sons Shawn L Cox, and Shane D Cox, and his grandsons Steven S Cox, Marcus A Cox, and Alex J Cox.

A Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday, October 22nd, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Lake Lotawana Sportsmen’s Club Banquet Hall, 29708 E. Alley Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
