Richard Allen Winfrey, 71, of Sedalia, formerly of Warrensburg, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 at his home.
He was born June 29, 1951, in Warrensburg, one of 13 children born to the late James Albert and Dorothy Marie (Odle) Winfrey.
Richard was a 1969 graduate of Warrensburg High School and attended CMSU (now UCM). As a teenager, he worked as a carhop. After graduation, he went to work for Cake Box and Taystee bakeries until his health declined.
Richard was saved, baptized and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Centerview.
Richard was an artist. He enjoyed oil painting abstracts and drawing. He had an eye for interior decorating and enjoyed shopping at thrift stores for home decor.
Survivors include three children, Michelle Lillard, of Sedalia, Desiree Yancey, of Blue Springs, and Eric Winfrey (Katie), of Olathe, KS; five brothers, James Winfrey, Larry Winfrey, Norman Winfrey, Arthur Winfrey and Robert Winfrey; three sisters, Cheryl Wilson, Debbie Cleghorn and Nancy Duggins; seven grandchildren, Amanda McGrail, Ashely Brandenburg, Cody Brandenburg, Halee Alfermann, Joseph Tate, Jackson Winfrey and Rylee Winfrey; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alven Winfrey and Jack Winfrey; and two sisters, Cindy Winfrey and April Winfrey.
A memorial service will be at noon, Saturday, December 17, 2022, at New Life Church Ministries with Pastor Chad Jamerson officiating.
