Robert Alden (Bob) Simpson, LaMonte, MO passed away on September 11, 2017 at University Hospital in Columbia.

He was born on Nov 26, 1940 in Caney, Kansas a son of Robert E. (Ted) Simpson and Faye (Hamman) Simpson.

He was a graduate of Caney High School, attended Coffeyville Community College were he met his wife. They were married in Coffeyville on Nov 27, 1960.

To this union was born two sons and a daughter. CWO Mitchell Simpson of Jefferson City, MO, John (Brenda) Simpson of Sedalia, MO and Jeri Breads of LaMonte, MO.

He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force in Oct 1980 after serving over 20 years. While in the Air Force, Bob was a member of the first all Air Force Maintenance Team to install and prepare for launch a Minuteman I missile at Vandenberg AFB, CA. Prior to this, all launches had been conducted by Boeing personnel. During his career, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Medal. Following his retirement, he became involved in trucking, becoming an owner/operator. Leaving this business in 1990, he attended State Fair Community College graduating with a Technical Certificate in Machine Tool. He worked at Interstate Studios as a maintenance technician. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, The Retired Enlisted Association and Sedalia American Legion Post 642.

He is survived by his wife of 50 plus years, his sons and daughter, 7 grandchildren 4 great-grandchildren and a brother, Tom Simpson of Belle Plaine, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother.

Visitation will be Thursday September 14, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 at the Heckart Funeral Home. A memorial will be held with full military honors at the Higginsville, MO Veterans Cemetery on Friday September 15 at 12 p.m..
