Robert Eugene “Bob” Jackson, 82, of Sedalia, passed away Monday morning, July 25, 2016, at his home.

He was born October 10, 1933, in Sedalia, son of Clarence H. and Stella Forster Jackson.

On September 15, 1956, he was married to Mary A. Birdsong, and to this union three children were born, Peggy, Gale and Robert, II.

On August 1, 1968, in Sedalia, he was married to Lena M. Rush, and from this union he accepted and loved four children, Debra, Edward, Christina and John.

Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War era. He was a member of the American Legion.

Bob worked as a sales representative for Reliable Life Insurance Company, where he received many awards including acceptance in the President’s Club numerous times. He later worked for MetLife and was recognized in the Leader’s Conference for many years. He was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters.

He was a member of Maplewood Church, and served on and was president of the Monsees Lakes Homeowners Association for many years.

Bob and Lena took a plain backyard and made it look like a park. He took great pride in his creation and enjoyed spending time there sitting by his goldfish pond. As a young man he enjoyed playing tennis, and in later years enjoyed biking on the Katy Trail. He also enjoyed fishing. Most of all he loved his family and his pet dogs.

Surviving are his wife, Lena, of the home; children, Peggy Jackson Waggoner (Randy), of Mericopa, AZ, Gale A. Jackson Davenport (Kent), of Gilbert, AZ, Robert E. Jackson II (Tammy), of Sedalia, Brenda Schroeder Thompson (James), of Sedalia, Debra Harper Hays, of Warrensburg, Edward J. Harper Jr. (Kristy), of Columbia, and John Harper (Paula), of Marshall; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Larry Jackson (Betty), of Sedalia; his sister, Carol Girten, of Sedalia; and numerous nephews and a niece.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter, Christina Lynn Harper; and his brother-in-law, Jim Girten.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
