In Loving Memory…
Ronald Leroy Finnell, 67, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
He was born November 26, 1945, in Nevada, MO, son of Edward Lee and Genevieve Finnell. On September 16, 1967, in Clinton, MO, he married Nancy J. Delcour, who survives of the home.
Mr. Finnell worked for the Sedalia Fire Department for 46 years, retiring as Assistant Chief. He was the last Assistant Chief in Sedalia as they retired his position when he retired. He was the fire house chef. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters and was instrumental in forming the Pettis County Fire Department.
Ronnie also worked for Sears for a number of years, delivering and installing appliances. He was a master carpenter and could fix anything. He remodeled the Bothwell Hotel twice. Woodworking was his favorite hobby. He worked on many projects with his friend and mentor, Les Harrell.
He loved spending time with and teaching his granddaughters. He enjoyed watching Looney Tunes cartoons and going for afternoon coffee at McDonald’s.
Ronnie served on the Red Cross board and served six years in the National Guard.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; a son, Ron E. Finnell, and his wife, Stephanie, of Sedalia; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Kirsten Finnell, both of Sedalia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Sager officiating.
Casket bearers will be Steve Delesky, Joe Pangburn, Larry Newbill, Danny Bailey, Roger Waters, Mike Hawkins, Walter Clark and Ken Schlesselman.
Honorary bearers will be Jack Bloess, Jerry Iuchs, Dr. Jonathon Strong, Lloyd Heisterberg, Joe Kabler, Jerry Case, and firefighters of the Sedalia Fire Department and Pettis County Fire Department.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Heckart Funeral Home.
