Ronald Wayne Wineinger, 78, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, December 15, 2023.
He was born August 3, 1945, in St. Joseph, the youngest of seven children born to Roy and Orpha (Bobbit) Wineinger. Ron met Linda Curtis-Haulmark on an airplane in January 1995 and they were married in January 1997.
Ron grew up in Stanberry, MO. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern Missouri State University and two graduate degrees from University of Central Missouri.
Ron was a passionate educator in the classroom who touched the lives of countless students during his 25-year tenure. His love and creative vision for the performing arts formed the foundation for the college’s theater program today.
His theatrical works included numerous outstanding productions and to help share his love for the arts. Ron started a student travel program which allowed over 2,000 students and community members to travel the world to experience the arts and theater.
He received numerous honors including 2001 Hall of Fame and Emeritus Award from the Speech and Theater Association of Missouri. In 1972, Ron received the Outstanding Teacher Award, the first to be awarded at State Fair Community College, and the Loren Reid Founders Service Award. He was the first to be awarded all three.
Upon retiring, Ron was elected to the SFCC Board of Trustees where he served the college for 18 years, from 2002-2020. Ron was a champion for community colleges at the local, state, and national levels. He spearheaded efforts to increase advocacy among the community college association trustees and the national community college trustees.
Ron was a Missouri coordinator, regional representative and presenter at ACCTs National Leadership Congress.
In 2021, Ron was granted the SFCC trustee emeritus honor for his service as a trustee.
Ron served his country honorably in the US Army 1969-1971. He was a member of VFW 2591 and faithfully served on the honors team for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; one daughter, Courtney (Allen) Wilken, of St. Louis; three stepchildren, Gary (Stephanie) Haulmark, of Coldwater, KS, Steven (Brooke) Haulmark, of Great Bend, KS, and Amy (Randy) Christy, of Leavenworth, KS; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and all of his siblings.
Memorial services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Heckart Funeral Home.
Visitation will be noon until service time.
Graveside service with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2591 and US Army will be 3:00 pm, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.
Memorial contributions are suggested to SFCC Foundation for the Ron Wineinger Endowed Scholarship at SFCC.
