Russell L. Rodems, 65, of Sedalia, passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
He was born July 18, 1956, in Chatham, IL, a son of Edward and Alma (Vangiesen) Rodems. On August 20, 2008, in Sedalia, he married Donna Platt, who survives of the home.
He served his country honorably in the US Navy September 20, 1974-August 6, 1978.
Russell lived most of his adult life in California, where he worked as a mechanic for Hertz and enjoyed riding his Harley. After he retired, he moved back to Illinois, then moved to Sedalia where he met his future wife, Donna.
He enjoyed fishing, playing video games and roasting Prime Rib for his family each year at Thanksgiving. He was a loving husband and took good care of his wife.
In addition to his wife, Donna, he is survived by his mother, Alma Rodems, of Decatur, IL; four stepsons, Matthew Platt, Marcus Platt, Caleb Evans and Jacob Evans; a step-grandson, Byron; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Rodems; and two sisters, Jane Richards and Alice Grossbaier.
Graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2021 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
