Sam E. Boyle

Samuel E. Boyle, 87, of Sedalia, died Friday, September 23, 2016, at Fair View Nursing Home.

He was born October 12, 1928, in Sedalia, son of Samuel E. and Fay Wilks Boyle.

As a child, Sam spent his summers with his grandparents in Sedalia. His grandfather, Alonzo Wilks,  served as Mayor of Sedalia in the early 1940s.

Sam attended high school at Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago, IL. He received an engineering degree at Colorado School of Mines. He was a geologist and spent his early years working on a geologic survey team exploring for oil throughout the central plains. He returned to Sedalia to care for his invalid mother. He worked for Looney-Bloess Lumber Company and then Hermann Lumber Company until his retirement. Sam was a voracious reader and a master of trivia.

Sam is survived by several cousins and their respective families across the country.

Special thanks to Nina and Doug Freed and Janet Green and her entire family for their boundless care and friendship to Sam over the years. They were indeed Sam’s family.

He will be laid to rest alongside his parents in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia, MO.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Sedalia Animal Shelter or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fair View Nursing Home for taking care of Pops the last three years and to Crossroads Hospice for their excellent care.

Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
