Steven Eugene Cook, 61, of Bates City, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

He was born July 7, 1960, in Sedalia, a son of the late Arthur “Bud” and Doris (Strider) Cook. He was married to Bobbie (Johnson) Cook and they were together nearly 30 years.

Steve was a 1978 graduate of Smithton High School where he excelled in basketball and continued playing at State Fair Community College. After he left State Fair Community College, he learned about the aggregate business and opened Cook’s Fabrication and Welding. After selling his business, he was recruited by many leading companies as an industry expert.

He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.

Steve enjoyed working in his shop, outdoor activities, socializing and helping people.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of the home; a daughter, Amanda Cook (fiancé Bryan Liou), of New York, NY; a brother, Gary Cook (Cheryl), of Des Moines, IA; and a sister, Shirley Lynn, of Sedalia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry McQuitty.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Darin Lynn, Garret Lynn, Danny Henderson Brian Gant, Travis Hagedorn, and Bryan Liou. Honorary casket bearer will be Gary Cook.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the NRA or Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
