Steven Higdon Hurt, 68, of Sedalia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
He was born March 27, 1952, son of William Boone Hurt and Mary Jeanette (Higdon) Hurt.
Steve was a regional manager and licensed clinical social worker with the Missouri Division of Aging, retiring after 32 years. He had a Master’s degree in the field of gerontology.
Steve was musically gifted, playing the clarinet and saxophone. He performed with the Sedalia Park Band, the Sedalia Symphony Society, Sedville Jazz and the Liberty Center Band.
His favorite place to be was the Hurt family farm in Cooper County. He enjoyed walking and exploring the land with his dogs, whom he dearly loved. He loved to be outdoors.
He had a love and vast knowledge of cars, and enjoyed tinkering with stereo equipment.
Surviving are two nephews, Rafael Hurt (Sarah) and Phelipe Hurt (Nathalia); two nieces, Jessica Mellott (Brian) and Amanda Crossland (Stephen); sister-in-law, Maria Cecilia Hurt; his companion, Kathy Humphreys; and six great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Ewing Hurt.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Heckart Funeral Home. Friends may pay their respects and sign the guest book between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2021, at the funeral home.
A private graveside service will be held at Providence Cemetery, with Rev. Dennis Harper officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Sedalia Symphony Society.
