Verda Rae Miller, 88, of Farmersville, TX, formerly of Sedalia, MO, peacefully passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Miller suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
She was born October 15, 1930, in Medford, WI, daughter of Hugh Rae and Esther (Lindberg) McIlraith. She was one of four girls.
She was married to Russell C. Miller, in 1957. The couple was happily married for 25 years until Mr. Miller’s death in 1983.
Family and faith were the focus of Verda’s life. She worked alongside her husband at Hardee’s Restaurant and later as an aid in nursing homes. When she moved to Colorado in 1988, she worked as nutrition specialist at a day care. Upon her retirement in 2001 she volunteered and served in her church nursery until she could no longer hold the children at age 81. She never met a child that she didn’t treat like her own.
Her faith in God and devotion to her family showed in all she did. She was giving, unselfish, and loving. Those attributes were shared with all she met.
She enjoyed sewing, crafting and in later years word search puzzles, reading or listening to her Bible, and listening to Gaither Gospel music.
Verda was a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Arlington, TX. She was previously a member of Parkview Christian Church while living in Sedalia, MO. She had lived in Texas for the last eighteen years.
Surviving are six children: Russell C. Miller Jr., of Bella Vista, AR, Michael Miller, of Deltona, FL, Kathleen Hartzell, of Maysville, NC, Joe Miller, of Farmersville, TX, William Miller, of Farmersville, TX, and Jacqueline Miller, of Farmersville, TX; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Lacefield; and three sisters, Jeanne Larson, Myrna Hughes and Marlene Wienert.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Heckart Funeral Home Thursday, September 5, 2019.
