Vernon L. Horn, 88, of Sedalia, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
He was born December 7, 1927, in Vida, MO, son of Charles E. and Anna Funke Horn. On October 31, 1952, at the United Church of Christ in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Leanna L. Rasa, who survives of the home.
Vernon was a graduate of Hughesville High School and attended Central Missouri State University for two years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from September 16, 1950 to September 16, 1952. Vernon was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. He worked as a Union ironworker and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and tinkering with old engines.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, survivors include two sisters, Mildred Brownfield, of Sedalia, and Harriet Meyer, of Cole Camp; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors, Jim, Jane and Julie Chancellor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sandra Nicholson.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cathy Jurgens officiating.
Casket bearers will be Jim Chancellor, Alan Meyer, Robert Meyer, Larry Brownfield, John Meyer and Charles Wise.
Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Herman Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
