Virginia Lee (Ginny) Arnett passed away quietly in Columbia, Missouri on May 5, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born on June 11, 1945, the daughter of Richard Daniel Ortz and Hazel Earlene Forbes Ortz in Youngstown, Ohio.
She was raised in the Sedalia community and attended the one room schoolhouse in Camp Branch. She started high school at Sedalia Smith Cotton before transferring to Green Ridge High where she met her future husband, Dale Arnett. High school sweethearts, they were united in marriage in Sedalia on November 20, 1963, embarking on a lifetime together sharing many travels and adventures over the next 59 years. She was blessed with two sons Jeffrey Matthew and Clinton Craig they are her greatest joy and she always considered being with family to be the most enjoyable times imaginable. She was a stay-at-home mom later owning and managing the Mighty Melt Sandwich and Spud Shop on West Broadway in Sedalia. She was active in many social clubs and served proudly as Sunday school teacher and youth leader at the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed walks on the beach, hiking in the mountains, walks on the Katy Trail, visiting wineries, long road trips, being a Grandma, gardening, cooking, cleaning, dining with family and friends and many other activities. After retirement she first moved to Sunrise Beach, Missouri and then to Palm City, Florida before returning to Missouri to live in Columbia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Henry Beck, and brother Ron Heinaman.
She is survived by her husband Dale, sons Jeff Arnett (Mary) of Columbia, Clint Arnett of Merriam, Kansas, granddaughters Holly Strane (Luke) and Samantha Arnett of Gainesville, Florida, sister-in-law Sharon Heinaman of Sedalia and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Rob Ayers Officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richie Arnett, Cory Arnett, Cole Gibson, Zach Taylor, Luke Strane, and Doug Wirt. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Ginny will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
