Waunita Mae Lovercamp, 95, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Friday, June 7, 2019, at Mt. Vernon Place Care Center in Mt. Vernon, MO.
She was born October 26, 1923, in Maysville, MO, daughter of Ralph and Mabel (Bird) Davis.
On June 1, 1947, in Sweet Springs, she married Frederick Lovercamp, who died August 5, 2006.
Waunita graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1941 and earned a B.S. in Education from CMSU in 1945. She was a business teacher, teaching in Sweet Springs from 1945 to 1952, then 1.5 years in Nelson, one year in Houstonia, one year in Hughesville and then taught the last 28 years in La Monte, for a total of 38.5 years. She was honored at an MSTA district meeting as the outstanding teacher at La Monte High School. While at La Monte, she organized the La Monte Teachers Association, serving as treasurer, Yearbook advisor and she co-organized the La Monte High School Honor Society.
Waunita was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as the regent of the local chapter, district director, first vice president, librarian and treasurer. She was selected as the 2019 Osage Chapter History Women of the Year. Waunita was also a member of Flat Creek Extension Club and Missouri Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed reading, Skip – Bo cards, and genealogy.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Lovercamp (Elaine), of Mt. Vernon, MO, and Greg Lovercamp (Meg), of Wenatchee, WA; eight grandchildren, Trish Babcock (Jackson), Jonathon Lovercamp, Carrie Lovercamp, Katelin Lovercamp Argo (Lance), Jenae Lovercamp-Hulsey (Cody), Lauren Lovercamp (Dustin), Reid Lovercamp and Ryan Lovercamp; one great-granddaughter, Cora Babcock; brother, Wilford Davis (Nancy); and two nephews, Tom Davis and R.T. Davis III.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; sister, Lucille Benner; and brother, R.T. Davis, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastor Andrew Tessone officiating.
Casket bearers will be Ryan Lovercamp, Jonathon Lovercamp, Jackson Babcock, Dustin Lovercamp, Cody Hulsey and Kyle Pemkiewicz.
Honorary bearers will be Reid Lovercamp, Mike Milligan, Lance Argo and Steve Davis.
Burial will be in Smithton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
