Wayne Henry Byrd, 91, of Warsaw, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born February 28, 1922, in Warsaw, son of Henry Wilson and Viola Elizabeth Wright Byrd. On March 19, 1943, in Sedalia, he was married to Lela Fern Buffon, who survives of the home.
Mr. Byrd retired from Pittsburgh Corning. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW Post 5925 in Lincoln. He loved to play guitar and sing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five children: Carolyn Miller, of Sedalia, David Byrd (Glenda), of Sedalia, Janet Kortum (Dale), of West Chester, OH, Barbara Pile, of Sedalia, and Anita Parish, of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Groves, of Sedalia.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Byrd; a brother, Alvin Byrd; and a sister, Violet Schlobohm.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Crown Hill Cemetery, with Jeff Page, Funeral Celebrant officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and VFW Post 2591.
