William Andrew “Bill” Bly, 69, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at University Hospital in Columbia after a two-year battle with cancer and complications of Covid-19.
He was born December 18, 1951, in Sunflower, KS, a son of the late Fred D. and Lottie L. (Bartlett) Bly.
He was a 1970 graduate of Blue Springs High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served his country honorably 1974-1980.
He retired from Ditzfeld Transfer in August 2020, after 28 years of truck driving. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to travel, BBQ and drink a beer with his family and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and playing pool. He loved attending concerts and dancing to his favorite music. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan.
Bill is survived by his fiancé of 27 years, Kimberly Casdorph; two daughters, Melanie Wood, of Independence, and Veronica Whitton, of Wellington; four step-children, Kristy Curtner, of Sedalia, Jeremiah Casdorph, of Cole Camp, Baron “Ricky” Hyde, of Sedalia, and Jesse Hyde, of the state of CA; a sister, Margie McMilian; a brother, Fred Bly, Jr.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
He was met at the gates of heaven by his parents; and son, William “B.J.” Bly, Jr.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Heckart Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Keith Daufeldt, Jeremiah Casdorph, Baron Hyde, Nathan Clifton, Stephen Curtner and Zander Jones.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with full military honors.
