William S. Hanna

William S. “Bill” Hanna, 87, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 26, 2017, at his home.

He was born December 11, 1929, in Marshall Junction, MO, son of Robert Clay Hanna and Ethel Mildred Stone Hanna.

On June 1, 1957, in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Katherine N. Koeller, who survives of the home.

Mr. Hanna served honorably from 1949 to 1952 in the United States Army during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Corporal. He enjoyed camaraderie with fellow veterans through membership in 40&8, Voiture 333, as well as American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 2591, both of which he was a life member.

Bill worked for 37 years and seven months for Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads, retiring as a materials handler.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jolly Elders, NARVRE Unit 42, NRA, North American Hunting Club and Ducks Unlimited. He was also a Mason in Granite Lodge 272.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and was an excellent gardener. He will be remembered as generous and helpful to anyone who needed it.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews as well as his brothers, Robert and Eddie Hanna and sister, Mary Ann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph Walter Hanna.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeremy Freeman officiating.

Casket bearers will be Richard Tucker, Michael Gregory, Jack Burlingame, Steve Proffit, Chuck Weathers and Raymond Bass.

Honorary bearers will be Jennifer Mathes, Rebecca Mathes, Sarah Broadbent and Lydia Johnson.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, at Heckart Funeral Home, where 40&8 services will be held at 5:00 p.m.
