Willis Walton “Bill” Young, age 75, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri in the arms of his wife.
He was born May 20, 1945, in Sedalia, Missouri, son of Willis “Big Bill” Jackson Young and Lorene Faye (Waisner) Young Casey.
On May 26, 1967, in Sedalia, he married the love of his life, Leah Isabelle (Scott). They were happily married for 53 wonderful years.
Bill was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School (class of 1963), and attended CMSU now the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
He retired from the Sedalia Democrat, where he worked as a journeyman pressman for over 40 years.
Bill liked to fish, camp, play cards, Chinese Checkers (marbles) and was an avid book reader. He enjoyed watching old Western movies and Sci-fi.
He helped with the construction of the New Apostolic Church here in Sedalia where he was a member, served as a deacon and vision of strength for over 40 years. His most memorable and timeless advice to newly married men was to say “yes dear” and always open the door for your wife, even the car door when it’s raining. Bill doted on his children and six grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved his nieces and nephews as his own.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leah, of the home; two children, Sabrina “Sissy” (Young) Platt, and Willis G. “Willy” Young and his wife Lisa, all of Sedalia; six grandchildren, Willis “Grant” Young, Joshua A. Young, Benjamin N. Young, Steven “Riley” Platt, Brianna R. (Platt) Mets, and Alyssa N. Platt; his full brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Young, of Kansas City; a cousin he considered his brother, Terry Reichel, of San Antonio, TX; a cousin he considered his little sister, Jeanette (Trimnal) Lamers, also of San Antonio, TX; his wonderful and loving Casey brothers and sisters: Roxie (Powell), Debbie (Gorman), Trudy, Dean, Pat and Jackie (Hartley), all of the Kansas City area; and, his loyal little grand-puppy Todo.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his paternal grandparents, Laura Bell (Berry) and Harry Young, who adopted him and finished raising him along with his beloved aunt, Lois Reichel Trimnal (also deceased); his maternal grandparents , Burleigh M. “Berle” (Ragg) and George Clifton Waisner; and his brothers, William Jackson “Jack” Young and Richard Clifton “Sheriff Cliffy” Casey.
A private service for the family will be held at the New Apostolic Church in Sedalia. Speaking will be the Evangelist Rick Rehkop, Priest Rick Fuendling, Retired District Elder Ronald Sorensen and Retired Priest Carl Goeckeler. The service will be live-streamed on Heckart Funeral Home’s Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. (CST), Sunday, October 18, 2020.
Honorary bearers will be Jamie S. Houk, Bryan J. Young, Joe Young, Milton “Bud” Scott, Joel G. Scott, Nicole K. (Scott) Rorabaugh, Dennis Humphrey, Donna (Myers) Young Trelow and in spirit “Little” Lanny B. Houk.
