Zita M. Shackles

Zita Marie Shackles, 73, of Green Ridge, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

She was born March 26, 1943, in Sedalia, daughter of Clarence and Ruby (Durrill) Mahin.

On September 17, 1966, in Houstonia, she was married to Robert Lee Shackles.

Zita worked at Percy Kent Bag Company for many years and also worked in the cafeteria at Fort Osage High School. Later she worked at OIS Trucking, from where she retired.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sedalia. She enjoyed doing cross stitch, reading, collecting rocks and traveling to her grandkids’ activities.

Zita will be remembered for her love and kindness. She always provided a warm, welcoming home and loved to entertain family and friends.

In addition to her husband of 50 years, Robert, she is survived by two children, Lea Ann Rothmier (Mark), of Blue Springs, and Brian Scott Shackles (Heidi), of Oak Grove; five grandchildren, Eric Rothmier, Shelby Rothmier, Hannah Shackles, Ashley Rothmier and Mark Shackles; and her brother, Thomas Mahin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Mark Eugene Shackles.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.

Casket bearers will be Eric Rothmier, Mark Shackles, Darryl Shackles, Kirk Stobart, Michael Hudson and Dustin Mahin.

Honorary bearers will be Todd Hudson and Philip Mahin.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Independence.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Heckart Funeral Home.
